The population of migrant workers in Taiwan, mainly from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines, has been increasing to over 650,000 as of May 2017. Most of them are factory workers and domestic workers. The average monthly income of factory worker and domestic workers are TWD 25440 and TWD 19643 respectively. Most of them have to spend the income of first 18 months to pay for agency fee and other fees. There are more than 86,000 migrant workers in Taichung and around 160,000 in central Taiwan. They gather at ASEAN Square near the Taichung Railway Station during weekends. The Taichung municipal government has not paid much attention to the issue and not until 2015 began to organise activities at ASEAN Square. However, the activities do not meet very much the needs of migrant workers and could not help enhance the mutual understanding of migrant workers and Taiwan people.

In view of this, 1095 Culture Studio was formally established in February, 2016, aims to enhance the mutual understanding of migrant workers and Taiwan people and the capability of migrant workers to voice out their needs. The main actions of the studio are:
1. Weekly mobile library and Karaoke to migrants. (2015.10~present)
2. Monthly outdoor Southeast Asian film screening event to migrants. (2017.3~present)
3. Monthly outdoor labor rights related services (2017.3~present)
4. Monthly Chinese language courses to migrants (2016.4~present)
5. Southeast Asian food sharing activities which prepared by migrant workers.(2017.3~present)
6. Cultural tour in Taichung ASEAN Square to Taiwanese. (2015.11~present)
